Environmental pollution caused by the Tanning industry is one of the major problems in the world. This fact has been taken very seriously by the Tanning industry of Pakistan. Realizing the importance of environmental improvement in the Tanning industry, Pakistan Tanners Association-Northern Zone (PTA-NZ) initiated a comprehensive project for the tanneries located in different cities of Punjab.     Project is titled as “Introduction of Cleaner Technologies in Tannery Clusters of Punjab (ICTP)”.

The Project aims to improve awareness within tannery clusters of Punjab regarding important environmental issues and facilitate tanners in introducing cleaner production technologies. The ICTP-Phase-I was designed for the period from 1998-2000. Results of this phase laid down the solid grounds for next phase-II (2001-2005).
